Betty White: Meme Today, Gone Tomorrow

March 5th, 2010 | Posted by Jessica Bratcher in networking | News

Golden Girls star and recent Screen Actor Guild’s Lifetime Achivement Award recipient Betty White has found herself the target of a new viral internet campaign to host Saturday Night Live.

The actress, now 88 years old, has become the latest Internet “meme,” complete with a Facebook fan page of over 330,000 fans, all vying for her SNL spot. But as InvestorSpot article “Social Media Queen Betty White Upstaged By The Olympics?“ points out, timing for these viral memes is absolutely critical.

Her social media fan base, no doubt raving about White on Facebook this week, could move on to the next hot story within days. Her other big competitor, the Olympics dominated the Twitterverse and Blogosphere for the last two weeks of February. But with the Facebook campaign continuing to grow, and White’s recent Superbowl ad spot (a video for Snickers that also went viral), her chances look good; the Facebook page even confirmed preliminary talks between SNL and White’s publicist.
