Foraging new frontiers by becoming part of a very popular online social media game, Microsoft or better yet – Bing, saw immediate rewards for their efforts.

InsideFacebook.com reported on this phenomenon in their article, “Bing’s Facebook Page Gets 400,000 New Fans in a Day Through Ad Offer in Farmville.” As the article title indicates, Bing gained 400,000 fans in one day by placing a promotional offer inside Farmville, Facebook’s popular real-time simulation game. Considering Bing is Microsoft’s attempt at a search engine site they hope will supersede even Google’s popularity reach, and the fact that Microsoft owns a portion of Facebook, this is a very good use of family ties. Nepotism aside, it is also a good marketing model.

The SSN Take: They targeted their audience and offered immediate gratification for a specific action. It was a win-win situation.

It is interesting to compare the performance of Bing and Google search but i haven’t seen any difference at all in their performance. :
