Has Facebook Stepped into the Military Intelligence Field?
March 5th, 2010 | Posted by in Facebook | News | securityHaaretz.com recently reported on how a Facebook post of an Israeli soldier revealed strategic military plans and compromised the operation in the article, “IDF calls off West Bank raid due to Facebook leak.”
The soldier apparently disclosed the name of the combat unit, the place of the operation and even the time it was planned. Facebook “friends” then reported him. The tense situation between Israeli and Palestinian forces is real and not part of a video simulation game. This new development shows the power and reach social media has all around the world. It will be interesting to see how not just the Israeli Armed Forces respond, but how all military organizations address this possibility in their own ranks.
The SSN Take: We have repeatedly reported on the need to remember that what you post goes farther than you could ever imagine. This latest report only brings that fact to a new level, both in business and in life.
